Trade wars , territorial hegemony , growing armed forces footprint and arms industry are an ideal recipe for regional conflicts esp with historical adversaries . Japan’s atrocities in WW2 in China & Korea still reverberates!!

One wrong decision by US to elect a president who is a businessman and not a politician is leading to problems at all corners of the world. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope better sense prevails and tension gets de escalated fast. Good job done

A comprehensive analysis on East Asia , lucidily bringing out the existing faultines. The present situation is indeed muddled and has been further exacerbated by growing tensions between the US and China . China , expert in the double game , sees no gain presently in restraining NK ,as long as it (NK) does not cross a particular threshold . China also has its own “agenda” against Japan and South Korea. The US leadership under Trump having kick started a process with NK are also seemingly confused as the next step .In the last couple of years , Russia has entered into a favorable economic relation with China .This has steadily transformed relations between the two into a common strategic view on global affairs , the recent ‘fallout ‘ of which is their joint exercise in the area . In the meanwhile , India would do well to have a cohesive and comprehensive policy on East Asia for we do indeed enjoy a strategic partnership with most of the players in the region .

Logical conclusions based on fast changing regional equations. Comprehensive article that deals with issues we generally overlook and hence fail to draw a broader picture that the article paints.

Col. Ghosh Dastidar’s analysis on recent changes of relations between the first boy (South Korea) and the brightest boy ( Japan) of the world, as pronounced by USA 25 years before, are having strained relations have lost our sight in view of development in the national sector. So his article along with Editor’s synopsis made the political scenario amongst East Asian countries very much lucid and comprehensive.

A eye opening article… The changing dynamics in the region and especially amongst once close allies is worrisome. Maybe it is time for Russia to re-assert itself and regain lost ground, especially in times when the unipolar world, led by USA is disintegrating. China continues to be a bystander, having lost itself in many controversies and suspicions already! Jaihind
