Lockheed Martin is all set to showcase its immersive Vast™ Experience System for the first time in India at the 15th biennial Aero India, scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from 10–14 February. The company will showcase its vision for 21st Century Security®, focusing on integrated, cutting-edge capabilities tailored to the requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
According to a company statement, the Vast™ Experience System—a centrepiece of the Lockheed Martin exhibit—offers visitors an immersive, interactive 3D visualization platform that brings multi-domain missions to life.
“The company will be presenting latest advanced technology solutions to address
India’s most challenging 21st Century needs,” claims Lockheed Martin.
In addition to Vast™, Lockheed Martin’s exhibit will feature its latest and most advanced platforms and systems, including the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter, the F-21 fighter aircraft, the MH-60R “Romeo” multi-mission helicopter, the Javelin® weapon system, and the S-92® multi-role helicopter, alongside its innovative Vast™ technology.
William L. Blair, Vice President and Regional Chief Executive for Asia and India at Lockheed Martin emphasized the importance of Aero India as a key platform for collaboration.
“Aero India has long been a leading venue for Lockheed Martin and the aerospace and defence sectors. We are excited to present the Vast™ Experience System and demonstrate our advanced capabilities designed to meet our customers’ most pressing challenges. Building on our strong partnerships with Indian industry, we aim to further support India’s path toward self-reliance in the defence sector.”
A Legacy of Collaboration
The C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter exemplifies Lockheed Martin’s enduring partnership with India. The Indian Air Force (IAF) currently operates 12 C-130Js, which support a range of tactical airlift missions. This partnership extends to the Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Limited (TLMAL) joint venture, which serves as the sole global supplier of C-130J empennage assemblies used on all new Super Hercules aircraft.
In 2024, Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) expanded their collaboration through a teaming agreement aimed at future opportunities, including:
- Establishing a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India to support the IAF’s C-130J fleet and other global Super Hercules aircraft.
- Enhancing C-130J manufacturing and assembly capabilities in India for potential inclusion in the IAF’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program (pending U.S. and Indian government approvals).
Spotlight on Advanced Platforms
The F-21 fighter aircraft, designed for the IAF’s Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft competition, represents a game-changing solution. Equipped with advanced sensors, mission avionics, and a state-of-the-art combat display system, the F-21 addresses India’s needs for affordability, performance, and alignment with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skill India’ initiatives.
The MH-60R “Romeo” SEAHAWK® helicopter will also take centre stage. As the world’s most capable multi-mission helicopter for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW), it is already operational with the Indian Navy, which has 10 MH-60Rs in service and will receive a total of 24 by the end of 2025.
Another key highlight is the Javelin weapon system—the world’s most versatile, one-man-portable, fire-and-forget anti-tank solution. Its ability to operate in any environment, coupled with unmatched operational flexibility, makes it a crucial asset for modern combat scenarios.
The S-92® multi-role helicopter further demonstrates Lockheed Martin’s collaboration with India. Through its joint venture with Tata Sikorsky Aerospace Limited, the S-92 fully integrates into Lockheed Martin’s global supply chain, with aerostructure components manufactured in India.
