The South Western Command of the Indian Army organised an Honour Run in on Sunday as a tribute to veterans. The event was flagged off from the iconic Albert Hall in the heart of Jaipur. A wide range of people participated in the event that included runs of varying distances ranging from 21 km, 10 km, 5 km Timed Runs and a 3 km non-timed run.
Races of different lengths were flagged off by various eminent personalities such as Olympic Medal winner & Rajasthan minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Retd), South Western Army Commander Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, Mrs. Barinder Jit Kaur, Regional President AWWA, Lieutenant General Harbinder Singh Vandra, Chief of Staff, South Western Command and Sandeep Bhatnagar, Chief General Manager, Sate Bank of India.
Many of India’s top runners such as Asian Marathon Champion Sunita Godara as well as paa-athletes Sangeeta Vishnoi and Colonel Anuj Bindra. Besides the star runners, the event brought together a diverse set of people which included veterans, soldiers, NCC cadets, professional runners, para-athletes, specially-abled children and organ transplant survivors.
Speaking at the event Col Rathore said “This run is organised in honour of our soldiers, veterans and veer-naris. A nation that honours its soldiers and veterans will stay secure.” He added that Prime Minister Modi has launched the Fit India mission to improve the fitness level of Indians.
Prizes up to Rs 30 lakh were distributed to the winners of various categories, promoting fitness and encouraging participation.
