The Indian Coast Guard rescued eight people from a flooded boat following an urgent call for help nearly 20 kilometres off the west Kundapura coast in Karnataka on March 20th. The distress signal originated from the IFB Ajmeer-I (IND-KA-02-MM-4882), which faced major flooding in the Arabian Sea. Responding promptly, the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Rajdoot swiftly embarked on the rescue mission. Renowned for its versatility, the ICGS Rajdoot, an Inshore Patrol Vessel, successfully executed the operation, showcasing its ability to handle diverse maritime challenges.
The officials established contact with the crew and approached the boat using an inflatable motorboat. Upon boarding, the rescue team activated machinery to drain the water from the flooded vessel, utilising large pipes connected to water pumps for de-flooding. The Indian Coast Guard shared visuals capturing the rescue and relief efforts via Twitter.

The prompt intervention by the Indian Coast Guard ensured the safe rescue of the crew aboard the flooded vessel in the Arabian Sea. Once the boat’s safety was verified, it was transferred to a “buddy boat,” the IFB Gold Fish (IND-KA-03-MM-4566), towed towards Gangolli Harbour, a major seaport in Karnataka. The boat and the crew entered the port, and the operation was declared successful.
