Canada implemented a ban on TikTok across government-issued phones Tuesday, joining a list of governments that have moved to restrict or bar the popular social media platform for short videos, which is owned by a Chinese company.
Ottawa and others have cited security concerns that China could use the platform, best known for viral dance and comedy videos, to spy on its more-than 1 billion users. TikTok has denied such charges and recently launched an aggressive campaign to convince Western governments it is not a national security threat.
