HFCL, a leading technology enterprise known for its high-end telecom equipment, is rapidly establishing itself as a key player in the defence sector. With a strong emphasis on exports, the company has successfully developed cutting-edge defence technologies that have garnered domestic and international attention.
One of HFCL’s most notable products is the indigenously developed electronic fuzes for artillery ammunition. These fuzes have undergone extensive testing, demonstrating their reliability and effectiveness in combat scenarios. HFCL is currently in discussions about exporting these innovative fuzes. The company said in a statement that this move aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan initiative, which promotes self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
Adding to its portfolio of advanced defence products, HFCL has designed a 12-micron Ti-core-based thermal weapon sight for defence forces. This sophisticated technology enhances targeting accuracy in various combat environments, placing HFCL among a select group of global companies capable of such innovation. The company has also participated in tenders to supply these indigenously developed thermal weapon sights for light machine guns and rocket launchers, with the products currently undergoing trials at different stages, stated the statement.
To address the critical Information, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) needs of defence and security forces, HFCL is making strategic advancements in developing state-of-the-art radar technologies. These efforts aim to provide robust and reliable ISR capabilities, which are crucial for modern military operations.
Through its subsidiary, Raddef Private Limited, an R&D enterprise specialising in advanced radar and RF solutions, HFCL has designed and developed a range of ground and coastal surveillance radars to meet diverse operational needs. These radars utilise Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) technology, offering several advantages over traditional radar systems, including high accuracy, low power consumption, and enhanced resistance to interference.
HFCL’s commitment to enhancing India’s defence capabilities further underscores its participation in the Indian Army’s Make-II program. Having successfully cleared the first level of user trials, the company has been shortlisted as a vendor for upgrading the armaments of the BMP 2/2K infantry fighting vehicles.
The company claims that HFCL owns the intellectual property rights of these products, which are in accordance with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan.
“HFCL has successfully created a comprehensive, its IPR owned state-of-the-art defence product portfolio which is not only of national importance but also has a huge demand for export. Entering the defence business significantly, we are exploring new product opportunities and forming strategic alliances to grow and contribute substantially to India’s defence sector. Our innovative products for the Indian Defense Forces and global markets are poised to boost our revenue and profitability,” said Mahendra Nahata, Managing Director, HFCL.
With these strategic developments and a growing portfolio of indigenously developed defence technologies, HFCL is well-positioned to contribute significantly to national and global defence markets.
