An Indian Army contingent has departed for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to take part in the second edition of the India–UAE Joint Military Exercise Desert Cyclone–II, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi from 18 to 30 December 2025, officials said.

The Indian contingent comprises 45 personnel from a Mechanised Infantry Regiment. The UAE Land Forces will be represented by an equally sized contingent from the 53 Mechanised Infantry Battalion, reflecting the growing operational engagement between the two armies.

The exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability and defence cooperation through realistic joint training in an urban operational environment. A key focus will be on sub-conventional operations under a United Nations mandate, preparing both forces to operate together in peacekeeping, counter-terrorism and stability operations.

Over the nearly two-week-long exercise, troops from both sides will train together on a wide range of tactical drills, including fighting in built-up areas, heliborne operations, and detailed mission planning. The programme will also include the integration of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and counter-UAS techniques, reflecting the evolving character of modern urban warfare.

Exercise Desert Cyclone–II builds on the momentum generated by recent high-level military exchanges, including the visit of the Commander, UAE Land Forces, in October 2025, and the Commander of the UAE Presidential Guard in December 2025. These interactions have contributed to expanding the scope and depth of bilateral military cooperation.

The conduct of Desert Cyclone–II underscores the deepening strategic partnership and military diplomacy between India and the UAE. The exercise is expected to further strengthen professional bonds between the two armies, promote mutual understanding of tactics, techniques and procedures, and contribute to the development of interoperable capabilities in support of regional peace, security and stability.
