The India–Malaysia joint military exercise, Harimau Shakti 2025, has entered its high-intensity phase. This phase focuses on advanced tactical manoeuvres, heliborne insertion techniques, and small-team combat drills, which are central to the training. This escalation represents a significant advancement in enhancing interoperability and operational synergy between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The fifth edition of Exercise Harimau Shakti 2025 began at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, scheduled between December 5 and December 18. The Indian contingent primarily comprises troops from the DOGRA Regiment, while the Malaysian contingent is represented by troops from the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malaysian Army.

During this phase, troops from both nations were introduced to key Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism (CI/CT) concepts, followed by an intensive lecture-cum-demonstration on modern patrolling techniques. Mixed teams then conducted joint patrol rehearsals to sharpen coordination, situational awareness, and mission planning under realistic, simulated battlefield conditions.

The training also featured focused discussions on decision-making during fluid operational scenarios, reinforcing the ability of commanders and soldiers to adapt swiftly in complex environments.

Ambush theory sessions, supported by hands-on demonstrations, strengthened the participants’ small-team offensive capabilities. A structured Command Post Exercise (CPX) further enhanced tactical planning and battlefield management skills, ensuring commanders from both sides could refine their approach to integrated operations.

Adding to the realism, troops carried out slithering drills—an essential heliborne insertion technique for dense or constricted terrain—underscoring the exercise’s emphasis on modern air–land integration.

With progressive modules covering ambush manoeuvres, slithering operations, live-firing practices and seamless joint patrolling, Harimau Shakti 2025 continues to elevate the combined combat readiness of both armies. The exercise stands as a strong testament to the deepening defence cooperation and mutual trust between India and Malaysia.
