The Indian Navy’s tableau for this year’s Republic Day will emphasize India’s status as a maritime nation and depict a middle-of-the-ocean scenario. It will feature sailors representing 17 states and Union Territories (UTs) and showcase their role in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Highlighting the Indian Navy’s newly commissioned frontline combatants—submarine INS Vaghsheer, destroyer INS Surat, and frigate INS Nilgiri—these vessels will take centre stage during the 76th Republic Day Parade on January 26.
On Wednesday, the Indian Navy revealed its tableau model with the thematic tagline, “Atmanirbhar Nausena se Rashtra Nirman” (Nation-Building through a Self-Reliant Navy). This tableau will symbolize India’s naval capabilities and its commitment to achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
“The tableau will depict the three platforms symbolising India’s naval prowess and the spirit of self-reliance in defence,” said Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Controller Personnel Services of Indian Navy.
INS Surat, the fourth and final vessel of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, stands as a testament to India’s growing self-reliance in defence production. It boasts 75% indigenous content. It is one of the largest and most advanced destroyers globally, equipped with cutting-edge weapon-sensor systems and advanced network-centric capabilities.
INS Nilgiri, the first ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, incorporates advanced features for enhanced survivability, seakeeping, and stealth, reflecting the next generation of indigenous frigates, while INS Vaghsheer is the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project.
The Navy’s mixed marching contingent and ceremonial band will accompany the tableau, further highlighting the Navy’s dedication to maritime security. The naval contingent participating this time will consist of 144 young personnel. The contingent will be led by Lt Cdr Saahil Ahluwalia as Contingent Commander and Lt Cdr Indresh Chaudhary, Lt Cdr Kajal Bharavi, and Lt Divinder Kumar as Platoon Commanders. The tableau will be commanded by Lt Cdr Mamta Sihag and Lt Vipul Singh Gehlot.
