Iranian Warships On Training Visit To Mumbai

The Iranian Navy’s warships, IRIS Boushehr and IRIS Lavan, are currently docked in Mumbai for a goodwill and training visit. This initiative aims to strengthen maritime cooperation and foster closer ties between the Indian and Iranian navies, according to a statement from the Indian Navy on Wednesday.

The Mission Commander, Captain Mohammad Saberi, On Tuesday, along with the commanding officers of the two ships—Senior Captain Seyed Ali Madani (Lavan) and Commander Hamed Bahramian (Boushehr)—called on Rear Admiral Vidyadhar Harke, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at Headquarters Western Naval Command. Their discussions covered areas of mutual interest, including naval training programs and operational collaboration.

The flotilla, carrying nearly 220 officer cadets, is on a training mission in the Indian Ocean, enhancing its maritime skills and operational readiness. Upon arrival, the Indian Navy accorded the warships a ceremonial welcome, complete with a military band in attendance.

A range of activities has been planned to enhance navy-to-navy interactions, including sports engagements and training visits to the Naval Dockyard for officer cadets.

The visit, scheduled from February 25 to 28, highlights the growing engagement between the Indian and Iranian navies, reinforcing shared interests in regional security and maritime cooperation. Over the years, India and Iran have expanded their cooperation across various defence-related fields, fostering stronger bilateral ties.

The visit of the Iranian warships marks another step toward deepening maritime collaboration and strengthening mutual friendship, the Indian Navy stated.
