External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted India’s expectations for its armed forces, emphasizing the need for preparedness in today’s complex global and geopolitical landscape. Speaking at the Army Commanders’ Conference, which concluded in Delhi on Tuesday, Jaishankar praised the Indian Army for remaining vigilant. He urged military leaders to stay adaptable to rapidly changing geopolitical threats and opportunities. He also underscored the importance of technological advancements and the value of insights gained from ongoing global conflicts in shaping India’s strategic posture.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan addressed the military leadership, emphasizing the importance of jointness among the three forces. He underscored the need for a roadmap to achieve integrated operations across domains, which he noted as essential for future warfare and effective mission execution.

General Chauhan outlined the step-by-step approach towards integration, starting with Cross-Service Cooperation, progressing to a ‘Joint Culture’, and ultimately achieving full integration for joint operations. He reiterated the importance of operational readiness to tackle emerging challenges, identifying modernization and strategic autonomy as top priorities.

Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi echoed these points, urging the armed forces to remain proactive and adaptable, especially in the Indian Ocean and Indo-Pacific regions where evolving dynamics demand agility. He highlighted the Indian Navy’s preparedness to tackle maritime challenges and their cascading effects on land operations, underscoring the importance of maintaining operational superiority in these strategic waters.

At the conference, Army leaders also focused on welfare measures and financial security schemes for soldiers, veterans, and their families.

“The conference reaffirmed the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to readiness and adaptability, with senior leadership pledging to accelerate ongoing transformational initiatives and contribute actively to national endeavours,” the Defence Ministry stated in a release.
