India and China held a fresh round of high-level military talks on October 25, focusing on maintaining peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, where the two sides have been engaged in a prolonged standoff since 2020.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the discussions were held under the General Level Mechanism in the Western Sector—marking the first such engagement since the 24th round of Special Representatives’ talks on August 19, 2025.
“The talks were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere,” the MEA said in a statement, adding that both sides reviewed progress since the 22nd round of Corps Commander-level talks in October 2024. The two delegations “shared the view that peace and tranquillity have been maintained in the India-China border areas” and agreed to continue using existing mechanisms to address ground-level issues and maintain stability.
The Chinese Defence Ministry, in a separate statement on Wednesday, confirmed that the 23rd round of Corps Commander-level talks took place at the Moldo-Chushul border meeting point on the Indian side. “The two sides engaged in active and in-depth communication on the management of the western section of the China-India border,” the statement said.
Beijing added that both sides had agreed to “maintain communication and dialogue through military and diplomatic channels under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries—Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping—and jointly safeguard peace and tranquillity in the border areas.”
The Corps Commander-level dialogue remains a key mechanism for easing tensions and advancing disengagement at remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh. While disengagement has been completed in several locations, including Pangong Tso, Galwan, and Gogra, outstanding issues persist at Depsang and Demchok.
The latest talks follow the Special Representatives’ dialogue in August 2025, which underscored the need to restore normalcy in border management and maintain overall bilateral stability.
