Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dhiraj Seth has concluded his first visit to the Northern Command since taking over as Army Chief, conducting an extensive review of the security situation, operational preparedness, and combat readiness along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Kashmir hinterland.

The three-day visit, from July 7 to 9, came amid heightened security deployment for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra and continued efforts by security forces to maintain a robust counter-terrorism grid in Jammu and Kashmir.

General Seth began the visit in Srinagar, where he was briefed by the Northern Command and the Chinar Corps on the prevailing operational environment, deployment posture, and overall preparedness to address evolving security challenges. He also met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to discuss issues relating to security, stability and civil-military coordination in the Union Territory.

At the Chinar Corps headquarters, the Army Chief reviewed counter-terrorism operations, inter-agency coordination and security arrangements for the Amarnath pilgrimage. He was also briefed on measures being taken to strengthen combat capability through the induction of technology and the integration of operational preparedness, according to army officials.

The COAS later travelled to forward formations in Kupwara, Uri and Manasbal, where commanders presented updates on the counter-terrorism grid, surveillance architecture, operational deployments and field-level innovations. During interactions with troops, General Seth lauded their professionalism and commitment in operating under demanding conditions.

A key feature of the visit was an exhibition of indigenous defence technologies developed for operational requirements. The Army Chief emphasised faster adoption of emerging technologies and innovation to enhance battlefield effectiveness and capability.

The final leg of the visit covered the White Knight Corps and forward areas in Poonch, Rajouri and Sunderbani along the LoC. General Seth reviewed the prevailing security dynamics, counter-infiltration measures, infrastructure development and overall operational readiness of formations deployed in the sector.
