Tarang Shakti 2026: India Projects Global Air Power and Indigenous Might in Jodhpur

0

The skies over Jodhpur, Rajasthan, hosted one of the most significant events in modern Indian military aviation. Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026 transformed the Air Force Station, Jodhpur and other forward airbases into critical hubs to show case air power. Bringing together thousands of air warriors from friendly foreign nations, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully organisedd its largest multinational air exercise.

Watch Out For Bharat Shakti’s Documentary Series

Bharat Shakti’s team filmed on the ground. Watch out for our multi-cam, signature documentary series. It features originally shot, raw footage and on-the-ground interactions with those who made Tarang Shakti happen. Keep an eye on our channels for those deep dives and cinematographic shots.

Operating wingtip-to-wingtip, the IAF integrated combat and transport assets from India, the United States, France, Germany, Australia, the UAE, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Furthermore, 32 observer nations attended to study the logistical and tactical execution of the drills. Despite radically different flight doctrines, these global allies operated under one shared tactical objective, proving the feasibility of seamless multinational interoperability.

The Historic ‘Tarang’ Formation

The visual and strategic climax of the air display was the signature ‘Tarang’ formation. Sweeping over the desert, this arrowhead formation demonstrated the core theme of the exercise: Power in Partnership.

The Lead: An IAF Sukhoi-30MKI heavy air superiority fighter took the point position.

The Left Wing: The United States Air Force’s fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II flew closely flanked by India’s indigenous LCA Tejas.

The Right Wing: A French Air and Space Force Rafale flew in perfect synchronization with a UAE F-16.

Aligning these diverse aircraft into a single, synchronised wave demands immense operational discipline. Integrating a stealth fighter, a light delta-wing jet, and heavy twin-engine fighters requires split-second communication and absolute mutual trust. Consequently, this flypast proved that the IAF possesses the robust command-and-control architecture needed to lead international fleets in a unified battle space.

Indigenous Power Takes Center Stage

While international participation drew global attention, India’s domestic aerospace ecosystem remained the undisputed centerpiece. During the aerial ballet, the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas executed tight loops and high-agility maneuvers directly over the Jodhpur runway, showcasing its fly-by-wire precision.

Similarly, the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachanda demonstrated remarkable agility. Officially named at this very air station in 2022, the multi-role attack helicopter performed steep dives and minimum-radius turns. Tested in high-altitude operations, the Prachanda aimed to prove that India’s indigenous Shakti engine delivers the heavy punch required for modern combat.

Adding to this display of domestic prowess, the Sarang helicopter team and the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) painted the Rajasthan sky in the tricolor, executing complex crossovers that demanded rigorous discipline and muscle memory.

Global Partnership and Strategic Interoperability

The significance of Tarang Shakti extended far beyond the flight line. On October 10, the entire upper echelon of India’s military machinery converged on the Jodhpur tarmac. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended alongside the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This unified tri-service presence sent a clear message regarding India’s aggressive push toward jointness and theater integration.

Addressing the gathered international contingents, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the necessity of trusted partnerships. He noted that collective learning is no longer simply desirable in the modern technological landscape; it is essential.

Crucially, the Defence Minister also reinforced the mandate of Atma-nirbhar Bharat (self-reliance). He stated that true national strength relies on the domestic capacity to design, innovate, and manufacture critical defense technologies. Tarang Shakti 2026 proved that India is not only defending its airspace but is also rapidly emerging as an anchor of stability and technological advancement in the global defence ecosystem.
