The ninth edition of the India–Kazakhstan joint military exercise KAZIND-2026 concluded at Oskemen, Kazakhstan, on October 11, following a 14-day training programme focused on strengthening interoperability and joint counter-terrorism capabilities.

The exercise, conducted from September 28 to October 11, culminated in a 72-hour validation exercise in which troops from both countries demonstrated their preparedness to conduct coordinated counter-terrorism operations in a simulated operational environment.

Training focused on counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain. The contingents conducted simulated raids, search-and-destroy missions, cordon-and-search operations and responses to terrorist actions. A joint command post and an intelligence and surveillance centre facilitated collaborative planning, information sharing and coordinated decision-making.

The programme also included tactical navigation, weapon handling, tactical drills and small-arms live firing, allowing troops to exchange operational practices and familiarise themselves with each other’s tactics, techniques and procedures.

Beyond combat training, the exercise featured joint yoga and sporting activities, along with a session on the Indian Army’s Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), aimed at strengthening camaraderie and mutual understanding between the contingents.

The successful completion of the final validation exercise marked the culmination of the joint training programme. According to the Indian Army, both contingents achieved the exercise’s objectives, reinforcing their ability to plan and execute coordinated missions.

KAZIND-2026 underscores the continuing defence engagement between India and Kazakhstan, with joint exercises serving as a platform to enhance military cooperation and contribute to regional peace and stability.
