Defence Minister Rajnath Singh released the Army’s Land Warfare Doctrine during Army Commanders' conference in New Delhi

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday called on the Indian Army’s senior leadership to develop a long-term strategic vision for the next two to three decades while remaining prepared to respond to immediate and emerging security challenges. He also released the Army’s Land Warfare Doctrine, aimed at preparing the force for the changing character of warfare and future conflicts.

Addressing the Army Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi on October 23, Singh said military strategies must remain dynamic and flexible amid a rapidly changing geopolitical and regional environment. He urged commanders to closely monitor emerging developments and ensure that the Army’s preparedness keeps pace with evolving threats.

Citing Operation Sindoor, Singh said innovative thinking, enhanced synergy, superior coordination and advanced weaponry had contributed to the operation’s success. He said the operation demonstrated India’s resolve to take necessary measures to safeguard its national interests.

The Defence Minister also stressed the need to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analytics and cybersecurity, alongside secure communication networks. He commended the Army’s ongoing restructuring efforts, particularly its focus on drones and modern technology, and called for continuous assessment of operational performance and timely improvements in capabilities.

Despite the growing importance of air, maritime, space and cyber operations, land warfare and ground forces would remain indispensable, Singh said. Modern warfare, he emphasised, required an integrated approach in which multi-domain capabilities and seamless coordination among the armed forces would be critical to success.

The newly released Land Warfare Doctrine provides an overarching framework for preparing the Army to meet the demands of an evolving operational environment. Its release comes amid growing emphasis on technological adaptation, joint operations and the integration of capabilities across multiple domains.

The Army Commanders’ Conference brings together the force’s senior leadership to review ongoing initiatives, identify future priorities and frame policy directions for building a technologically enabled, adaptable and future-ready Army.
