As part of the Rajat Jayanti (25th anniversary) of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the “Forever in Operation Division” recently organised the vibrant Summer Carnival 2024 in Dras in Kargil, Union Territory, Ladakh, under the Operation Sadbhavana initiative. This initiative is dedicated to promoting local talent, fostering sportsmanship, and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Dras Valley.
The carnival, which saw active participation from the local community, kicked off on 28 May at the Sando Rear Polo Ground in Dras. Over the course of a week, from May 28 to June 3, the ground was transformed into a lively hub of activity, attracting sports enthusiasts and cultural connoisseurs alike. The event featured a thrilling lineup of competitions, including tent pegging, horse polo, and archery. These events captivated spectators, showcasing impressive displays of skill, agility, and teamwork and providing a source of excitement and entertainment for all.
The culmination of the Summer Carnival on 3 June was marked by a grand celebration attended by the Chief Guest, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier B D Mishra (Retd). The closing ceremony was a spectacle to behold, featuring heartwarming performances by children from Army Goodwill Schools and adrenaline-pumping adventure sports displays by the army team, including hot air balloon rides and para-motors.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of majestic mountains and lush landscapes, the Summer Carnival was a beacon of joy and unity. It brought together people from all walks of life, serving as a testament to the power of community and shared experiences. Beyond the festive atmosphere, the carnival played a pivotal role in fortifying the bonds of trust between the military and civilians, a testament to the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and the promotion of the Dras region’s sports and cultural legacy, and providing a sense of unity and security for all.
The Summer Carnival 2024 in Dras was more than just an event; it was a celebration of the spirit of the region, a showcase of talent and tradition, and a platform for building lasting connections.
