Ashim Patil did his graduation in mechanical engineering but when he decided to turn entrepreneur a quarter century ago, he chose to get into information technology since manufacturing would have needed large capital. That decision led to setting up i-Tek RFID, a company that is at the forefront of ‘tracing and tracking’ solutions across different sectors. Today Patil and his enterprising team is constantly innovating and evolving solutions in multiple verticals.

i-TEK’s FASTag Electronic Toll Collection system has revolutionized India’s transportation landscape, reducing congestion, travel time, and corruption while boosting economic growth. i-TEK’s E-Seal solution streamlines container exports with secure and efficient RFID technology, supporting exporters as the growth engine of the nation.

Indian Railways utilizes RFID for Wagon Tracking and fare collection. RFID applications expand across industries, including Infrastructure Management, Passports, Healthcare, Sports, Waste Management, Animal Identification, Education, and Retail.

Patil, speaking with Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale in this edition of On the Shop Floor, says the global RFID market grew from USD 7 Billion (2012) to USD 12 Billion (2020) and is expected to reach USD 16 Billion by 2029. India will contribute significantly.

i-TEK, working since 2000, appeals to innovators to conceptualize RFID applications, remembering “It’s Physics Not Magic,” he adds.
