Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has embarked on a four-day visit to Japan on Monday. The visit aims to enhance military cooperation and strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Japan. On the first day, General Dwivedi will meet with Sibi George, the Indian Ambassador to Japan, at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. During the meeting, they will discuss the evolving dynamics of India-Japan relations, focusing on regional security and defence cooperation, according to Army sources.
On Tuesday, October 15, the Army chief will hold important discussions with senior Japanese military leaders, including General Yoshida Yoshihide, Chief of Staff of Japan’s Joint Self-Defence Force, and General Morishita Yasunori, Chief of Staff of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF).

The meetings will focus on expanding military cooperation, sharing strategic insights, and exploring new areas of collaboration. General Dwivedi will also be honoured with a ceremonial Guard of Honor and pay tribute at the Ministry’s Memorial.
General Dwivedi on October 16 will visit Fuji School, where he will engage in discussions with Lieutenant General Kodama Yasuyuki, the school’s commanding general. The discussions will focus on technology and training partnerships. Additionally, he will observe an equipment and facility display.

The visit will conclude in Hiroshima on October 17, where General Dwivedi will lay a wreath at the Hiroshima Peace Park to honour the victims of the atomic bombing. He will also pay homage to the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Peace Park, symbolizing the significance of peace and reconciliation.
