BDL Partners With Russia On Strategic Pantsir Air Defence Development

Bharat Dynamics Limited and Russia entered into MoU for cooperation on Pantsir variants of air defence missile-gun system

State-run defence public sector undertaking (DPSU), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s Rosoboronexport to collaborate on advanced Pantsir air defence missile-gun system. This advanced system is engineered to protect critical military and industrial assets from aerial threats while reinforcing broader air defence capabilities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has recently been signed between Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Rosoboronexport on the sidelines of the fifth India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission Subgroup (IRIGC) meeting held in Goa.

The MoU focuses on cooperation regarding the Pantsir variants of the air defence missile-gun system. Cmde A. Madhavarao (Retd), the Chairman and Managing Director of BDL, and Kovalenko German, the Deputy Director General of the naval department at Rosoboronexport, signed the agreement during the event in Goa, BDL post on X announced.

This partnership aligns with the upcoming visit of Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who is scheduled to co-chair the 25th session of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation alongside India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar., the Russian Embassy said.

Established in 1970 and headquartered in Hyderabad, BDL operates under India’s Ministry of Defence and specializes in producing guided missile systems and allied equipment for the Indian Armed Forces. BDL collaborates closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to meet India’s defence requirements.

Rosoboronexport, part of the Russian state-owned Rostec State Corporation, is Russia’s sole state-controlled intermediary for military exports and imports. It facilitates the country’s military-technical cooperation with international partners. The agreement between BDL and Rosoboronexport reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen India-Russian defence ties.
