Ministry of Defence signed a Rs 642 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for Navy’s 28 EON-51

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Saturday finalized a ₹642 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Delhi, for the procurement of 28 advanced EON-51 systems to bolster the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities.

The EON-51 is a cutting-edge Electro-Optical Fire Control System designed for target search, detection, and classification using state-of-the-art electro-optical and thermal imaging technologies.

According to the Defence Ministry, the initiative will generate employment opportunities over the next three years while fostering active participation from various Indian industries, including MSMEs. This move aligns with the government’s vision of achieving ‘Atmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in the defence sector.

The acquisition will equip 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships with the EON-51 systems under the ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ procurement category, ensuring an infusion of indigenous technology.

This development is a significant step towards enhancing the Indian Navy’s surveillance and combat readiness while promoting domestic defence manufacturing capabilities.
