Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has embarked on a highly significant official visit to France. This visit is crucial in further deepening the strong defence ties between the two nations, which have gained considerable momentum in the last few years. During his visit, General Anil Chauhan is scheduled to interact with the senior civil and military leadership of France, including his counterpart, the French CDS (CEMA), General Thierry Burkhard, Director IHEDN (National Institute for Higher Defence Studies), and Director General Armament, as per the Defence Ministry release.
“General Anil Chauhan embarks on an official visit to France. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation and exchange views on areas of common interest between the two Nations. Key highlights include engagements with senior leadership of the French Armed Forces and visits to Defence HQs and reputed industries,” said Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) in a post on Twitter.
He will visit the French Space Command and the Land Forces Command. He is also scheduled to address the student officers of the Army and Joint Staff Course at Ecole Militaire, a prestigious military school in France. The CDS will interact with some big defence industries in France, including Safran Group, Naval Group, and Dassault Aviation.
As per the official statement, the Chief of Defence Staff’s trip to the Neuve-Chappelle Memorial and the Indian Memorial at Villers-Guislain holds great significance. During his visit, he will pay tribute to the courageous Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the First World War by laying a wreath in their honour. This visit follows French President Emmanuel Macron’s high-profile state visit to India earlier this year in January.
