Concerns Over Bangladesh’s Use of Turkish Drones Near Indian Border

Indian Army is monitoring closely as the Bangladesh military deploys Turkish-made Bayraktar TB-2 drones for surveillance operations near the Indian border. Intelligence reports indicate that the armed drones have been conducting sorties over the past few months, flying within Bangladeshi airspace but in proximity to Indian territory. In response, Indian agencies have bolstered monitoring efforts, including deploying advanced radar systems to track drone activity.

Bangladeshi TB-2 drones have been observed carrying out surveillance missions lasting over 20 hours, according to security agencies. The Bayraktar TB-2, classified as a Medium-Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV, is among the most successful exports of the Turkish defence industry. Capable of carrying air-to-ground weapons, it has played a significant role in global conflicts.

India is also concerned about Bangladesh’s growing military ties with Pakistan. Mohammed Yunus’s administration has reportedly deepened engagements with Pakistani intelligence agencies, even allowing their officials to visit sensitive border areas such as the Chicken’s Neck corridor in Siliguri, West Bengal.

Recently, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi expressed concerns over the presence of Pakistani military and intelligence personnel in Bangladesh near Indian territory, further raising security apprehensions.
