The Indonesian Navy on Sunday launched the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2025 in island province of Bali, with participation of 38 countries, including India, aimed at enhancing maritime interoperability and regional security cooperation.
Themed “Maritime Partnership for Peace and Stability,” this fifth edition of the biennial exercise began with a Fleet Review, where participating nations showcased their naval capabilities, including warships, helicopters, and aircraft.
Representing India, the INS Shardul and a P-8I Long-Range Maritime Surveillance Aircraft have arrived in Bali to take part in both Exercise Komodo and the prestigious International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025, scheduled from February 15 to 22. The IFR will be reviewed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, with naval contingents from multiple countries in attendance.

Indian naval personnel will engage in security discussions, tactical exercises, and maritime cooperation initiatives. The Indian Navy stated that its participation aligns with India’s Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) vision, emphasizing maritime collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
“This follows the participation of INS Mumbai and the P-8I aircraft in the LA PEROUSE exercises in Indonesia in January 2025, as well as the visit of Admiral Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, to India. Admiral Ali was part of the high-level delegation accompanying President Prabowo Subianto, the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day Parade 2025,” the statement read.
This year’s exercise features tactical naval drills, officer exchange programs, bilateral meetings, an international maritime security symposium, a defence exhibition, and cultural parades.
First launched in 2014, Exercise Komodo is a non-combat military drill organized by the Indonesian Navy to strengthen maritime cooperation among friendly nations.
