IAF, French Air and Space Force Scale Up Interoperability in Exercise Garuda 25

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and the French Air and Space Force (FASF) are demonstrating strong operational synergy and advanced combat skills during the ongoing bilateral air exercise Garuda 25, currently underway at Mont-de-Marsan, France. The eighth edition of the exercise, being conducted from November 16 to 27, aims to deepen military interoperability, refine joint tactics, and reinforce the growing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Paris.

In an update posted on X on Wednesday, the IAF highlighted the seamless coordination between the two forces, noting that “professionalism, precision, and cohesive teamwork continue to deepen interoperability and reinforce the strength of this bilateral partnership.”

 

The IAF has deployed six Su-30MKI fighter aircraft for the drills, supported logistically by a C-17 Globemaster III for strategic airlift and IL-78 tankers for extended-range operations. These assets are operating alongside France’s frontline Rafale multirole fighters in a series of complex air combat scenarios. The missions include advanced air-to-air engagements, air defence operations, and coordinated strike packages designed to simulate realistic, high-intensity battle conditions.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercise is enabling both air forces to exchange operational knowledge, test combat readiness, and adopt best practices. “This exercise aims to refine tactics and procedures in a realistic operational environment, enabling mutual learning and fostering interoperability between the IAF and the FASF,” the Ministry said in a statement.

Officials added that Garuda 25 not only enhances combined operational readiness but also reflects India’s commitment to expanding its global defence engagements. Regular participation in such bilateral and multilateral exercises, they noted, strengthens professional bonds and promotes shared understanding in air operations.

As the drill progresses, both sides maintain a high operational tempo, demonstrating the increasingly sophisticated nature of Indo-French defence cooperation, which remains central to their broader strategic partnership.
