The 12th edition of the Joint Military Training (JMT) exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) commenced on 21 October at Air Force Station Kalaikunda, West Bengal. The next seven weeks will see the two sides simulate advanced combat aerial engagements alongside joint training on ground, as per the IAF. The exercise underscores the deepening defence ties between the two nations and aims to enhance interoperability, mutual learning, and the exchange of air combat expertise.
The bilateral phase of the exercise, scheduled from November 13 to 21, will set to deepen collaboration between the two forces. During this phase, the two forces will engage in advanced air combat simulations, joint mission planning, and comprehensive debriefing sessions.
The objective is to enhance interoperability, sharpen combat readiness, and facilitate the exchange of tactical knowledge, further strengthening the strategic partnership between the two Air Forces, Indian Air force said.
The RSAF is participating with its largest contingent, including aircrew and support personnel from its F-16 and F-15 squadrons, G-550 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) and C-130 aircraft. The IAF will field a diverse fleet featuring Rafale, Mirage 2000 ITI, Su-30 MKI, Tejas, MiG-29, and Jaguar aircraft.

Since its inception, the Joint Military Training (JMT) exercise has been conducted under the framework of a bilateral agreement between India and Singapore. This year’s JMT follows the RSAF’s participation in Exercise Tarang Shakti, one of the largest multinational aerial exercises hosted by the IAF, highlighting the deepening professional ties between the two Air Forces. Beyond air operations, personnel from both forces will exchange best practices while participating in various sports and cultural activities over the next seven weeks, fostering camaraderie and mutual understanding, the statement states.
“JMT-2024 highlights the strong bilateral defence relationship built over years of collaboration and joint exercises, as well as the mutual respect between India and Singapore,” the Indian Air Force said.
