The 12th edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting between India and UAE took place in Abu Dhabi on July 9. During the meeting, the two sides discussed a wide range of opportunities for collaboration to strengthen defence and security cooperation between the two countries. The Defence Ministry reported detailed discussions on areas such as training, joint military exercises, defence-industrial cooperation, subject matter expert exchange, and research and development.
According to an official statement, both sides also discussed the regional security situation, including maritime security, and emphasised the need to enhance collaboration to address security challenges. They also discussed exchanging visits in different domains to benefit from each other’s experience and knowledge and mutually exchange training opportunities in niche areas.
The Indian delegation, led by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad, included senior officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Armed Forces, and the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi. Brig. General Staff Jamal Ebrahim Mohamed Almazrooqi from the UAE co-chaired the meeting.
During the visit, Joint Secretary Prasad met with the Assistant Under Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, UAE, Ali Abdulla Al Ahmed, and discussed bilateral defence cooperation. He also had a productive meeting with the CEO of the Tawazun Economic Council. Additionally, staff talks between the two countries’ Navy and Army were conducted on the sidelines of the JDCC, and service-specific cooperation was discussed in detail, according to the statement.
The India-UAE JDCC was established in 2006, and 11 rounds have been held since then. The 12th meeting provided an opportunity to further strengthen India’s defence and security relations with the UAE, enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
