The 12th edition of the India-Italy Military Cooperation Group (MCG) meeting, held on 12-13 March 2024 in New Delhi, marked a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations. The event brought together defence officials from both countries to discuss new initiatives aimed at enhancing defence cooperation and military-to-military level exchanges.
During the meeting, representatives from the Directorate of International Defence Cooperation, Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, and the Military Policy and Planning Division of the Italian Defence General Staff engaged in constructive dialogue. The primary focus was on strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Italy, which has become increasingly crucial in today’s global security landscape.
Italy and India recently elevated their bilateral relations to the levels of Strategic Partnership during the visit of Italian Prime Minister Ms Giorgia Meloni to India in March 2023. The MoU on Defence Cooperation was also recently renewed during the visit of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Italy in October 2023. The MoU was renewed to increase collaboration in areas such as joint military exercises, technology sharing, and capacity building. This strategic partnership marks the beginning of a new era of collaboration as both nations collectively dedicate themselves to global peace and stability.
