The 5th edition of the India-Oman Joint Military Exercise Al Najah began on September 13 and concluded on September 26 with a grand closing ceremony at the Rabkoot Training Area in Oman. The Indian Army contingent, consisting of 60 personnel, was represented by a battalion of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment and personnel from other arms and services.
The ceremony featured an impressive joint live-fire demonstration, showcasing the interoperability and joint capabilities of the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman. This demonstration illustrated how both forces could cooperate in peacekeeping operations under a United Nations mandate. Approximately 60 soldiers from both armies participated in this display of military cooperation.
The demonstration included a series of tactical exercises. It involved simulated isolation and clearance of a village in a desert environment. Joint forces made up of Indian and Omani Armoured Personnel Carrier troops, carried out house clearance drills and hostage rescue operations. Additionally, snipers from both sides showcased their marksmanship by effectively engaging targets throughout the exercise.
During the first few days, the classes focused on combat first aid, casualty evacuation, weapon handling for both armies’ weapons, and counter-drone drills to promote interoperability while considering the latest trends of the modern battlefield. Following that, emphasis was laid on assault rifles, sniper, pistols, and LMG firing, aiming to simulate their application in actual operations by instilling reflex fire and close-quarter battle techniques, the Indian Army stated in its statement.
Both contingents participated in a dynamic Field Training Exercise emphasizing real-world scenarios and the practical application of combat skills. This exercise allowed troops to refine their response strategies to various complex situations, including clearance of Built-Up Areas, Casualty Evacuation, hostage rescue, and replenishment of supplies and ammunition in a combat zone.
In addition to the tactical drills, AL-NAJAH V has provided a platform for cultural exchange, which is integral in strengthening the bond between the two forces. The exercise will culminate with a grand live-fire demonstration, showcasing the cohesion and interoperability developed between the two armies to conduct peacekeeping operations in concurrence with the UN Mandate.
