As part of Exercise Tiger Triumph, the Indian Army, US Marines and US Army National Guard train together for joint sub-conventional operations. As part of tri-service India-Us Amphibious exercise, ‘Tiger Triumph’ which commenced on 18 March in Vishakhapatnam, brought together a battalion group comprising of over 700 personnel of Indian Army along with Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The exercise has witnessed amphibious capabilities of the Indian Army in conventional and sub-conventional scenarios. The Indian Army is showcasing newly procured/inducted weapons and state-of-the-art technological infusions.
The second edition of the Tri-Services India-US Amphibious Exercise, “Ex Tiger Triumph 2024,” brought together the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, and the United States Defence Forces. This 14-day exercise aims to enhance interoperability, strengthen bilateral relations, and refine capabilities in Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) and sub-conventional operations, according to Indian Army.
The exercise began with the Harbour Phase at Vishakhapatnam, where communication checks were conducted to ensure seamless coordination between the participating forces. Personnel from both countries exchanged visits to each other’s ships, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. This interaction facilitated the exchange of best practices and operational techniques, further strengthening interpersonal bonds.
The sea phase which commenced on 24 March in Kakinada, involved strategic move to a simulated island country, setting the stage for a series of complex operations. This includes a ship-to-shore move demonstrating the precision and coordination required for amphibious operations. The primary objective of this joint exercise was to create and manage an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, showcasing the dedication of both forces to humanitarian aid, informed army sources.
In addition to the IDP camp, sub-conventional operations and joint training drills play a crucial role in enhancing the operational capabilities of both forces. These drills include convoy operations, IED drills, cordon and search operations, and counter-ambush drills. By participating in these exercises, the forces can improve their ability to combat asymmetric threats effectively, revealed army sources.
Collaborating in these joint exercises highlights the interoperability, joint operational capabilities, and intelligence sharing between the two countries, the India Army sources. This cooperation not only strengthens their mutual understanding but also helps in addressing global security challenges more efficiently.
The Indian Army contingent is represented by components from Infantry, Mechanized Infantry, Para SF, Artillery, Engineers and other supporting Arms apart from assorted systems of multiple Drones, Anti Drone equipmen, ICVs.
Exercise Tiger Triumph also facilitates Subject Matter Expert exchanges, cross-board visits, and friendly sports matches to foster camaraderie among troops. “Through this joint training with the US Defence Forces, both countries showcase interoperability, joint operational capabilities, and intelligence sharing, enhancing their preparedness for future challenges,” Army sources added.
