The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indonesian Coast Guard, also known as Badan Keamanan Laut Republik Indonesia (BAKAMLA), have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for another three years. The renewal was formalized during the 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM) held at Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi on January 27.
The meeting was co-chaired by Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, General Paramesh Sivamani, and Chief of BAKAMLA, Vice Admiral Irvansyah, who was accompanied by an eight-member delegation on an official visit to India from January 24-28, as per a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening operational collaboration in key areas such as maritime search and rescue, pollution response, and maritime law enforcement. Both sides also underscored the importance of sharing best practices and conducting professional exchanges to enhance safety and resilience in the Indo-Pacific region.
In a gesture highlighting the growing ties between the two nations, ICG Ship Shaunak is deployed to Jakarta from January 27 to 30 to foster operational linkages with BAKAMLA.
The renewed MoU reaffirms India and Indonesia’s shared commitment to ensuring a secure and cooperative maritime environment, further solidifying their partnership in addressing regional maritime challenges.
