In one of the most challenging military environments in the country, the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps has introduced a breakthrough logistics system designed for the harsh expanse of the Kameng Himalayas. Perched at nearly 16,000 feet, this region frequently suffers from severe weather, treacherous slopes, and routine disruptions to supply routes, conditions that often isolate forward posts for days at a time.
To overcome these long-standing obstacles, the Corps has developed and fielded an indigenous High-Altitude Mono-Rail System, now fully operational and already reshaping logistics in the area. The system, engineered entirely in-house, can ferry over 300 kilograms of load in a single trip, providing a dependable lifeline to remote positions that lack alternative communication or supply options.
According to officials, the mono-rail can operate round-the-clock, day or night, with or without escorts, and remains functional even during storms or heavy snowfall. Its ability to move ammunition, rations, fuel, engineering stores, and other bulky essentials across steep and unstable terrain is being hailed as a major advancement in sustaining troops deployed in extreme conditions.
Beyond its logistical value, the new system also holds promise for rapid casualty evacuation. In high-altitude areas where weather and foot evacuations frequently ground helicopters, the mono-rail offers a safer and quicker means of transporting injured personnel.
The achievement highlights the ingenuity and adaptability of the Gajraj Corps, reflecting the Army’s commitment to developing practical, mission-oriented solutions for its toughest operational challenges. By strengthening supply resilience and improving emergency response capabilities, the innovation is expected to enhance readiness across isolated Himalayan posts significantly.
