In a significant achievement for the Indian Army, the HAL Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) successfully conducted high-altitude firing operations, a milestone hailed as “historic.” Designed for precision and versatility in challenging terrains, Prachand’s performance underscores India’s growing capabilities in high-altitude combat, the IV Corps, or Gajraj Corps, of the Indian Army, said via a tweet post.

Developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Prachand is a formidable attack helicopter capable of tracking slow-moving aerial targets and performing search and rescue missions. In addition to high-altitude warfare, it is equipped for anti-tank operations, counter-insurgency roles, and close air support.
The LCH is designed to counter slow-moving aerial threats like enemy helicopters and drones. It features a Low-Observable (LO) design that reduces its visual, radar, infrared, and acoustic signatures, enhancing its survivability in hostile environments. This two-seater helicopter is armed with advanced weapons systems, including 70 mm rockets, a 20 mm turret gun, and helicopter-launched anti-tank guided missiles. It is also equipped with radar and laser warning receivers, allowing it to engage both infantry and armoured targets effectively.
Notably, nearly 45% of the LCH’s components are domestically sourced, with future models expected to increase this to 55%. The Prachand was officially inducted into the Indian Air Force in October 2022, marking a key step in India’s push for Indigenous defence capabilities.
