The 13th edition of Exercise Maitree 2024, a joint military endeavour between the Indian Army and the Royal Thailand Army, concluded with a grand ceremony on July 15 in Tak Province, Thailand. This exercise, guided by the principles of the United Nations charter, marks a significant step in enhancing the two nations’ military cooperation and operational capabilities.
The closing ceremony was graced by Major General Narongrit Panikabutr, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division of the Royal Thailand Army, who served as the Chief Guest. Representing India, Group Captain Brijesh Paul, Defence Attaché to Thailand, was the Guest of Honour, according to the Indian Army officials.
Major General Narongrit Panikabutr praised the dedication and proficiency of both armies’ contingents throughout the exercise. He emphasised that Exercise Maitree is vital for strengthening defence cooperation between India and Thailand, reflecting their commitment to addressing specific regional security challenges such as [insert specific challenges] and promoting peace under the United Nations charter.
Lieutenant Colonel Mandan Ojha, Commander of the Indian Army contingent, expressed gratitude to the Royal Thailand Army for hosting the exercise. He highlighted the mutual benefits gained from exchanging best practices and expertise, which bolster the operational capabilities of both armies.
During Maitree 2024, joint training activities included a wide range of tactical exercises such as weapon training, day and night firing, rappelling, jungle survival techniques, navigation training, communication exercises, combat first aid, and casualty evacuation drills. These activities honed the participants’ tactical skills and deepened the enduring friendship between the armed forces of India and Thailand.
The Indian Army said Exercise MAITREE 2024 reaffirms the unwavering commitment of both nations to collaborate closely on defence and security matters.
