Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan highlighted the need for Future Strategic Leaders to enhance quick decision-making in today’s technology-driven battlespace, where timelines are shrinking rapidly. Delivering the closing address at the maiden Tri-Services Future Warfare Course, which concluded on 27 September, the CDS underscored that artificial intelligence, machine learning, advancements in stealth technology and hypersonics, and robotics would dictate the character of future wars.
Gen Chauhan said that in today’s ever-changing security landscape, it’s important to prepare future leaders who understand the complexities of modern warfare. Our course focuses on key areas such as future warfare trends, air and space operations, non-kinetic warfare, maritime operations, and multi-domain operations to achieve this. The course aims to develop integrated operational concepts, improve joint force capabilities, introduce advanced technologies for future battlefields, and enhance tri-service cooperation. By completing this course, participants will be better equipped to lead and influence the future of warfare, ensuring a unified and effective response to emerging challenges.

A new frontier in military training was launched to prepare the Indian Armed Forces for the future on 23 September. The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff is conducting a tri-services ‘Future Warfare’ course in New Delhi under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. This course is unique because it is open to officers from major generals to majors and their equivalent levels in other services, regardless of rank. The course aims to familiarize the officers with modern warfare’s operational and technological aspects, ensuring that they are well-prepared for future challenges.
The course has been developed by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff with the assistance of veteran and serving subject matter experts. Future courses will expand on the curriculum of this course and be longer in duration, aiming to make the Indian Armed Forces “Future Ready.”
