More than 2,000 people have been reported killed across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, drawing several countries hosting U.S. military bases and regional allies into the expanding conflict, according to Reuters.

The fighting, which has stretched from Iran to the Gulf and the Levant, has led to missile strikes, drone attacks and naval incidents affecting both military personnel and civilians. The figures compiled below are based on official statements and media reports up to Sunday. Reuters has not independently verified the casualty numbers.

Iran has suffered the highest number of casualties. State media on Monday reported at least 1,270 deaths since the conflict began. However, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations said on March 6 that 1,332 people had been killed, and authorities have not explained the discrepancy between the two figures.

It remains unclear whether those totals include the 104 personnel the Iranian military said were killed when the United States attacked an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka on March 4.

Lebanon has also seen heavy casualties from Israeli strikes, with at least 850 people reported killed, according to Lebanese authorities. The World Health Organisation (WHO) said 98 of the dead were children, underscoring the impact of the strikes on civilian areas.

In Iraq, at least 30 people have been killed, Iraqi health authorities said. Most were members of the Shi’ite Popular Mobilisation Forces. Separately, a foreign crew member died after tankers were attacked near an Iraqi port, port security officials said.

Israel has reported 12 deaths, including nine civilians killed in an Iranian missile strike on the town of Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem on March 1, according to Israel’s ambulance service. The Israeli military also said two of its soldiers were killed during operations in southern Lebanon.

The United States has confirmed the deaths of 13 service members since the start of hostilities. Six were killed when a U.S. military refuelling aircraft crashed over Iraq, while seven others died during combat operations against Iranian targets, according to the U.S. military.

Elsewhere in the Gulf, the United Arab Emirates reported six deaths in Iranian attacks, according to its defence ministry.

Kuwait has also reported six fatalities, including two people killed in Iranian attacks, along with two interior ministry officers and two army soldiers.

In Syria, four people were killed when an Iranian missile struck a building in the southern city of Sweida on February 28, the state news agency SANA reported.

Oman recorded two deaths in a drone strike on an industrial zone in Sohar province, marking the first fatalities inside the country, which has been hosting mediation talks between the United States and Iran. In a separate incident, a projectile struck a tanker off Muscat, killing one crew member, according to the vessel’s manager.

In Saudi Arabia, two people were killed when a projectile landed in a residential area in Al-Kharj, southeast of the capital Riyadh.

Bahrain reported two deaths in separate Iranian attacks, including a strike on a residential building in the capital Manama, the interior ministry said.

Outside the immediate conflict zone, France said one of its soldiers was killed and six others wounded in a drone attack in northern Iraq, where French troops were deployed on a counterterrorism training mission.

Together, the figures highlight the widening regional toll of the conflict, which has quickly spread beyond Iran and Israel to involve multiple countries hosting foreign troops, military installations and strategic shipping routes.
