Pakistan’s security forces killed 270 terrorists in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province in 2024, according to an official report released on Monday. Among those neutralized were several high-profile militants with bounties on their heads.
The report, issued by the KP Police Department through the provincial Directorate of Information, revealed a notable rise in the conviction rate for terrorism-related cases, increasing from 13% in 2023 to 38% this year. Security forces also arrested 802 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism, including 32 militants with monetary rewards for their capture.
However, the battle against terrorism came at a steep cost. The report detailed that 149 police officers lost their lives, and 232 were injured in the line of duty.
Beyond counterterrorism efforts, the year saw an extensive crackdown on criminal activities. Authorities registered 211,828 First Information Reports (FIRs), leading to the arrest of 221,470 suspects. Among them were 132 individuals accused of extortion, 13 kidnappers, and 19,481 proclaimed offenders.
Under the National Action Plan, security forces conducted 12,601 search-and-strike operations across the province. These intelligence-driven missions targeted high-profile terrorist groups, resulting in the elimination or capture of key militant commanders.
Enhanced law enforcement measures also contributed to a decline in major crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms trafficking. During the operations, stolen property worth over PKR 1.12 billion was recovered and returned to its rightful owners.
In anti-narcotics efforts, security personnel seized a staggering 28,097 kilograms of drugs. It included 3,240 kilograms of crystal meth, 1,695 kilograms of heroin, and 22,575 kilograms of hashish.
