Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, held a series of high-level engagements with US Commanders

Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, during his ongoing official visit to the United States, which began on November 12, has held a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral naval cooperation and advancing the shared strategic agenda in the Indo-Pacific.

During the visit, Admiral Tripathi met Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM); Admiral Stephen T. Koehler, Commander of the US Pacific Fleet; and Lieutenant General James F. Glynn, Commander of US Marine Forces Pacific.

According to the Indian Navy, the discussions reviewed the key pillars of India–US defence cooperation, including maritime security, interoperability, and the expansion of operational engagements across the Indo-Pacific.

The talks covered several priority areas of mutual maritime interest, including:
• Deeper information-sharing and enhanced maritime domain awareness, building on mechanisms such as the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness initiative (IPMDA) and linkages with the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR).

• Protection of sea lines of communication and critical undersea infrastructure, amid growing strategic competition in the region.

• Coordinated responses to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), search and rescue (SAR), counter-piracy, and other non-traditional security challenges.

• Scaling up the complexity and frequency of bilateral and multilateral exercises—including MALABAR, PASSEX, and engagements under the CMF/MILAN frameworks—to refine joint warfighting and sustainment capabilities.

• Collaboration in emerging domains, such as unmanned systems, ISR, cyber, and space-enabled maritime operations, to boost operational readiness and resilience.

The Indian Navy said the interactions reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the two navies and the growing synergy between Indian and US Marine/joint forces. The engagement, it added, is anchored in mutual trust, shared democratic values, and a common commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific.

Admiral Tripathi’s visit comes at a time when both nations are accelerating efforts to deepen defence cooperation, particularly in the maritime domain, in response to evolving regional security dynamics.
