UAE Land Forces Commander Wraps Up India Visit, Elevates Defence Ties

The visit of Major General Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami, Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Land Forces, to India has further advanced military cooperation and strategic understanding between the armed forces of the two nations.

During his stay from October 27 to 28, Major General Al Hallami met with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army, at South Block in New Delhi. Both leaders held extensive discussions on avenues for expanding military collaboration, joint training, and technology exchange. The talks reflected the growing convergence between the two armies on matters of regional security and operational cooperation.

Key Engagements and Discussions

He was briefed on a range of Indian Army initiatives, including Operation Sindoor. He received detailed presentations from the Director General, Information System and the Army Design Bureau on emerging technologies, digitisation, and artificial intelligence applications for future warfare.

The UAE delegation also visited the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) headquarters, where the visiting Commander met Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO. Presentations during the visit highlighted India’s progress in indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The Commander was introduced to a variety of home-grown defence technologies, including drone and counter-drone systems, artillery and missile platforms, explosives, and armour protection solutions for combat vehicles.

Tribute to Fallen Soldiers

As part of his official engagements, Major General Al Hallami laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, paying homage to the soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. The solemn ceremony reflected the shared respect between the two countries’ armed forces and their commitment to peace and stability.

Industry and Strategic Outreach

The UAE delegation also interacted with representatives from India’s defence industry, exploring potential areas of industrial cooperation and co-development. The discussions covered opportunities in advanced weapon systems, research collaboration, and defence innovation.

These engagements are seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE, which extends beyond trade and energy to encompass security, counter-terrorism, and technological collaboration.

A Step Forward in Defence Cooperation

Both sides reaffirmed their intent to continue expanding defence ties through sustained dialogue, joint exercises, and training exchanges. Officials described the visit as a productive engagement that added new momentum to India–UAE military relations.

His interactions in India underline the mutual commitment of both armies to enhance operational cooperation and explore new areas of defence partnership in keeping with evolving security challenges.
