Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has launched two indigenous fast patrol vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard, named Adamya and Akshar. Designed in-house by GSL to meet the specific operational requirements of the Coast Guard, these vessels aim to enhance security around offshore assets and island territories and bolster surveillance capabilities, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry. The FPVs are part of an eight-vessel contract valued at Rs 473 crore, reflecting a strategic investment in coastal defence. With a primary focus on protection, monitoring, and surveillance, these advanced vessels will significantly strengthen the Indian Coast Guard’s operational readiness.
Measuring 52 meters in length, 8 meters in breadth, and with a displacement of 320 tonnes, these fast patrol vessels are optimized for safeguarding offshore assets, protecting island territories, and conducting surveillance operations, according to the Defence Ministry. Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) is constructing eight FPVs for the Indian Coast Guard, underscoring its critical role in advancing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision in defence production by enhancing self-reliance in maritime security.
Addressing the gathering, Director General Paramesh Sivamani praised the enduring partnership between the Indian Coast Guard and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), highlighting how the collaboration has successfully navigated challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and various geopolitical disruptions.
“This launch epitomises the resilience and ingenuity of GSL, achieved in close collaboration with Indian industry,” he said.
GSL Chairman and Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay highlighted the shipyard’s remarkable growth trajectory, marked by a 100% increase in gross revenue, surpassing the ₹2,000 crore milestone.“GSL has consistently surpassed its previous achievements, integrating advanced technologies and adopting transformative policies to position itself as one of India’s leading shipbuilders with indigenous capabilities,” Upadhyay stated.
He credited GSL’s success to its unwavering focus on innovation and modernization and its dynamic partnership with the Indian Coast Guard, which has significantly enhanced the nation’s operational readiness and bolstered maritime security.
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane laid the keels for the FPVs Adamya and Akshar on 25 August 25. In a first for Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), both vessels were launched simultaneously, utilizing the shipyard’s advanced ship-lift system. This milestone underscores GSL’s modernization efforts.
