In a major post-Operation Sindoor push to defence modernisation, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Thursday approved capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 1.05 lakh crore, all through indigenous sourcing.

It was the DACтАЩs first meeting since the launch of Operation Sindoor, and it cleared ten key procurement proposals aimed at strengthening the operational readiness of the Armed Forces. The approvals include Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, an Integrated Common Inventory Management System for the Tri-Services, and Surface-to-Air Missiles.

“These procurements will enhance mobility, bolster air defence capabilities, improve supply chain management, and significantly augment the operational preparedness of the Armed Forces,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

Additional AoNs were accorded for Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous VesselsтАФcritical systems that will help mitigate threats to both naval and merchant vessels.

To further promote self-reliance, all these procurements have been approved under the ‘Buy (IndianтАУIndigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)’ category, reinforcing the government’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.
