The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Thursday successfully flight-tested its indigenous quasi-ballistic missile Pralay from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast, marking a significant step towards its induction into the armed forces.
The missile was tested at around 11.10 am on November 5 as part of user evaluation trials. All test objectives were successfully achieved, with flight data captured and validated by various range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, according to the Defence Ministry.
Indigenously developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories, Pralay has been produced by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), one of the programme’s Development-cum-Production Partners.
The successful flight test, conducted in the presence of senior DRDO officials, representatives of the industry and the armed forces, brings the missile programme closer to operational induction.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the armed forces and industry partners on the achievement, saying that the missile’s advanced technologies would further strengthen the country’s technological capabilities and enhance military operational preparedness against emerging threats.
Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who is also Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, and Chairman, DRDO, congratulated the teams involved in the successful flight test.
The latest trial underscores India’s continuing efforts to strengthen its indigenous precision-strike capabilities through the development and production of advanced missile systems. These successful tests pave the way for its immediate induction into the Indian Army and Air Force.
