Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called upon the Indian Air Force (IAF) leadership on Tuesday to explore innovative ways to enhance the force’s capability and capacity-building processes, aligning them with the nation’s aspirations.
Speaking at the Air Force Commanders’ Conference, Singh expressed confidence in the IAF’s ability to adapt to evolving security challenges. He encouraged senior officials and commanders to focus on making the processes more efficient and effective, considering India’s strategic goals.
During the conference, the Defence Minister was briefed on the IAF’s operational capabilities. It marked the first such conference under the leadership of Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, who took charge of the IAF on September 30.
Key attendees included Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who assumed office on November 1, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Chairman Samir V. Kamat, and Secretary of Defence Production Sanjay Kumar.
“This conference serves as a crucial platform for the IAF’s senior leadership to deliberate on current challenges and strategize future actions to ensure operational excellence and strengthen Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence capabilities,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
The high-level meeting comes as the IAF accelerates its modernization efforts, emphasizing the acquisition of indigenous military hardware. Concurrently, the armed forces are advancing the catheterisation process—a major reform aimed at optimizing resources for future warfare.
The ongoing conference has facilitated in-depth discussions on critical operational, administrative, and strategic issues. The IAF’s leadership also engaged with the CDS and the Chiefs of the Army and Navy to reinforce inter-service synergy.
The commanders conference underscores the IAF’s commitment to maintaining readiness and spearheading advancements in defence self-reliance, which aligns with India’s evolving security landscape.
