AustraHind 2024 India-Australia Joint Military Drill

The 3rd edition of the India-Australia joint military exercise, Australia, is in full progress at the Foreign Training Node in Aundh, Pune. This year’s exercise, which began on November 8 and runs until November 21, brings together the armed forces of both nations in a robust two-week training program aimed at enhancing cooperation and interoperability, according to the Indian Army.

In the initial phase of AustraHind 2024, troops from India and Australia have been actively participating in diverse training activities, including physical conditioning, martial arts, joint tactical planning, and special arms skills. Exercises such as raiding hostile targets and delivering combat first aid have provided hands-on combat scenarios, enhancing coordination and fostering mutual understanding between the forces.

To promote camaraderie, the exercise included social and cultural activities. Both contingents enjoyed an excursion to the historic Sinhagad Fort near Pune, immersing in the region’s cultural heritage. On November 12, the Australian contingent also visited the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla, Pune, where they toured the academy’s state-of-the-art facilities and engaged with instructors to gain insight into the NDA’s rigorous training environment, known for instilling discipline and excellence in future military leaders.

Phase II of AustraHind 2024 will intensify with joint combat drills and tactical exercises, further building operational readiness and interoperability. According to an Army official, the exercise will conclude with a 48-hour validation drill from November 19-20, testing the coordination and skills honed over the previous phases.

AustraHind 2024 highlights the strengthening of defence ties between India and Australia as both nations work together to bolster regional security and deepen military collaboration, the official added.
