The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL), Kanpur, for the production and delivery of 463 indigenously manufactured 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns (SRCG) designated for use by the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. This deal is pegged at Rs 1,752.13 crore, with over 85 per cent of Indigenous Content (IC). These cutting-edge SRCGs are expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. These systems enable precise engagement with small targets that may threaten vessels, irrespective of prevailing lighting conditions, as highlighted in the official release from the Ministry of Defence.
This procurement aligns with the vision of “Atmanirbharta in Defence” (Self-reliant India) and is set to catalyse the growth of the domestic manufacturing sector. It is expected to bring advantages to more than 125 Indian vendors and Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) over five years.
