Boeing, the American aerospace company, has named Nikhil Joshi, the new Managing Director of Boeing Defence India (BDI), as a strategic move to fortify operations and propel growth in India. Operating from New Delhi, Joshi will spearhead ongoing and upcoming programs for BDI, aiming to elevate India’s defence forces’ mission readiness and modernisation. As the official company statement outlines, Joshi will report to Salil Gupte, President of Boeing India and South Asia, and closely collaborate with Boeing Defence, Space & Security (BDS) and Boeing Global Services (BGS).
With over 25 years of experience in the aerospace and defence industry, Joshi has an extensive background, having dedicated over two decades to the Indian armed forces within the aviation branch of the Indian Navy. Before his tenure at Boeing, Joshi held the position of country manager at Eaton Aerospace, where he played a pivotal role in expanding Eaton’s business presence in India. Joshi has over 4,000 hours of flying experience on diverse Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft and has commanded frontline ships and air squadrons.

The aerospace company has maintained a significant presence in India for more than eight decades. Currently, India operates a fleet that includes 11 C-17s, 22 AH-64 Apaches (with six additional units on order), 15 CH-47 Chinooks, 12 P-8Is, 3 VVIP aircraft (737 airframe), and two Head of State aircraft (777 airframe), all of which are Boeing platforms. India holds a prominent position in Boeing’s business strategies, standing as one of the largest defence markets for the company. Boeing Defence India (BDI) functions as a local entity, providing comprehensive lifecycle solutions for government and defence customers in India.
