Your First Defence Presentation: What Really Matters | Defence Procurement : A Practitioner’s Perspective – Ep 5

0

Getting a presentation or demonstration opportunity with the Indian military is an important milestone — but it is not a procurement event.

In this episode of Defence Procurement – A Practitioner’s Perspective – we look at what companies should actually aim to achieve during that first engagement, and some common mistakes that can undermine an otherwise strong opportunity.

The first presentation is an introduction. The first demonstration is an exploration. What matters is having the right people in the room, clearly communicating what you are presenting, understanding what the user wants to see, and aligning expectations before the meeting begins.

We also look at very practical issues that companies often overlook — from identifying the right military domain experts and bringing the likely project lead into the room, to checking device restrictions, connectivity, permissions and demonstration requirements well in advance.

Most importantly, the objective of the first engagement is not necessarily to close a sale. It is to establish whether the problem exists, whether your solution addresses it, who needs to be involved next, and whether there is enough interest to move the conversation forward.

A technically excellent product can still have a poor demonstration if the room, expectations and logistics have not been prepared properly.

What we have covered in this episode:
• Why the first presentation is not a procurement event
• How to ensure the right people are in the room
• What information companies should send before a meeting
• Why demonstrations need expectations to be aligned
• Practical issues around devices, connectivity and permissions
• Why the likely project lead should be involved early
• How to define success for your first military engagement
