IAF and IIT Bombay have signed an MoA to establish a framework for providing a Master’s degree to flight-test crew

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and IIT Bombay have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to establish a collaborative framework for providing a Master’s degree to flight-test crew, including test pilots and flight-test engineers.

Signed on September 2, the agreement will enable the Air Force Test Pilot School (AFTPS) at the IAF’s Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) to leverage IIT Bombay’s academic, technological, and research capabilities. The initiative seeks to integrate advanced academic research with the practical expertise of military flight testing.

The IAF said the collaboration recognises flight testing as a critical component of the development and induction of military aviation systems and aims to accelerate the growth of India’s indigenous military aerospace industry in line with the Atmanirbharta initiative.

The initiative is also expected to strengthen the technological capabilities of India’s flight-test ecosystem and contribute to greater operational readiness and self-reliance in the military aerospace aviation industry.

The MoA was signed in the presence of Air Vice Marshal Ashish Srivastava, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Projects), IAF, and Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay.
