A Decade of Credibility, Conviction And Commitment

Celebrating ten years of shaping India’s defence discourse

At the stroke of midnight on November 25, 2015, BharatShakti.in went live—a quiet but determined beginning to what would become one of India’s most credible voices on defence and strategic affairs.

Conceived by veteran journalist Nitin A. Gokhale and brought to life along with Brigadier S.K. Chatterji (Retd) and Neelanjana Banerjee, BharatShakti was founded on a simple yet powerful idea: to provide a platform for the Indian defence industry to speak for itself.

“When we began, there was no single window for the industry to engage, share its issues or find reliable information,” recalls Gokhale. “We wanted BharatShakti to become that voice—one space for analysis, policy and industry engagement.”

What began with three people and a conviction in India’s potential for self-reliance in defence quickly grew into a full-fledged media and analysis collective. Over the years, BharatShakti.in has become synonymous with credible journalism, sectoral insights and informed commentary on India’s defence ecosystem. Its readers include policymakers, serving and retired military officers, industry leaders and professionals involved in procurement and policy-making.

Reflecting on its evolution, Gokhale notes: “Our biggest success is that we’ve maintained credibility—we’ve never compromised on facts or integrity.”

The platform’s growth has mirrored India’s own trajectory in indigenisation, aligning naturally with the government’s Make in India initiative launched in 2015. From the first conclave in 2016—inaugurated by then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar—to annual events that bring together the armed forces, industry and foreign defence attachés, BharatShakti’s gatherings have become must-attend forums for the ecosystem.

Now entering its 11th year, BharatShakti is preparing for the next phase. Plans are underway to revamp industry-focused content, expand the YouTube channel’s reach through Hindi explainers and documentary-style field films and launch new series like Women in Defence and Training India’s Best on premier military institutions.

There’s also a push to connect with younger audiences—not only through digital storytelling but also through on-ground initiatives. “We’re looking at BharatShakti Clubs in Tier-II cities and defence corridors like Coimbatore, Lucknow, Kanpur and Pune,” says Gokhale. “It’s time we engage with MSMEs, students and young officers who represent the future of India’s defence sector.”

As the organisation steps into its 11th year, the team remains rooted in its founding philosophy—to be a trusted, insightful and forward-looking platform that bridges the gap between policy, industry and people. “We may have started small,” says Brig Chatterji, “but we’ve always aimed high—with credibility, class and conviction.”

Ten years on, that spirit endures. The same quiet determination that lit up the midnight of November 25, 2015 now shines brighter than ever, guiding BharatShakti into its next decade of service to India’s defence and strategic community.
