Giridhar Aramane visited Bharat Electronics Limited, Chennai, Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), and Engine Factory Avadi (EFA) to review production activities and ongoing R&D projects.
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane visited Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in Chennai on Tuesday to assess the Unit’s performance. He lauded the Unit’s research and development (R&D) and manufacturing capabilities and encouraged stakeholders to boost productivity and efficiency. Aramane highlighted BEL’s significant role in indigenous weapon systems and platforms, which is essential for the success of the Make in India initiative. He also underscored the importance of capacity building for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The Defence Secretary also visited the Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) Corporate office, Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), and Engine Factory Avadi (EFA) to assess production activities and ongoing research and development projects. During his address to the officials, Aramane stressed the importance of adopting global manufacturing standards and ensuring the highest quality standards. He encouraged them to prioritize research and development, innovate in new product development, promote indigenization initiatives, and enhance overall efficiency and competitiveness.
Aramane visited the MBT Arjun Shop at the Heavy Vehicles Factory and several other production areas, such as the General Assembly Shop, Hull Shop, and Transmission Shop. Later, he visited the manufacturing facilities at Engine Factory Avadi (EFA), where he received a briefing on tank engine manufacturing and overhauling. EFA showcased fully indigenous engines for Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), including T-72, T-90, BMP-II, and their variants, aligning with the ethos of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
